Technique Assessments

  • The most common reason is pain while performing an activity. Maybe you’ve been having knee pain while cycling. Maybe you’ve been having shoulder pain while swimming. Maybe you’ve been having hip pain while running. Whatever the case, the cause may be in a sub-optimal movement pattern, performed hundreds (or thousands) of times over the course of a workout.

  • Running, swimming, cycling or weight lifting assessments available. Send a video of yourself performing the activity of your choice, and a licensed Physical Therapist will perform a ground-up assessment of your technique and provide any recommendations for improvement.

  • If you decide to purchase a technique assessment, you will receive a detailed step-by-step guide.

In brief, you will start by recording yourself from three views; front, back, and side. Then, you upload the video files to a cloud service (Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Box, or Dropbox [all free]) and share those files with Juan de Fuca Fitness.

After the assessment, we will upload and share a video of our findings and recommendations. This video will be yours to review or share as you wish!

  • Typically, 1-3 days. Possibly longer, depending on demand. But we will let you know if that’s the case.

Coaching

  • We have a focus on endurance sports; running, cycling, swimming, triathlon.

We also offer weight training programming to meet your particular goals/needs (strength, hypertophy, muscular endurance, etc). This can be done as a standalone service, or as a supplement to your sport coaching.

  • You might not! There are plenty of great resources for learning to self-coach. There are also many generalized plans out there that have worked for a lot of people.

But, if you are looking for a personalized plan, designed to address any weaknesses, and safely improve your fitness, a coach might be for you!

  • We start by scheduling a meeting to discuss your current fitness, health history and training history. We will also discuss seasonal goals, timelines and reasonable expectations for improvements.

Depending on your activity history, you may be asked to perform an assessment activity to give your coach a reasonable snapshot of your current fitness.

After this, your coach will begin curating a training plan to set you on the path to improved fitness. Plans are released in four week increments and you will have the opportunity to communicate concerns and request changes via email once per week. You will also have the opportunity to request a Zoom or Teams meeting to discuss progress and concerns once per month.

  • Ideally, you will at least have a GPS enabled watch with a heart rate monitor (optical or chest strap). And since we use TrainingPeaks to review workouts, as well as build and share structured workouts, you will need a free, personal TrainingPeaks account.

We also provide running and cycling plans utilizing power. If you would like to train via power, you will need a power meter.

  • That’s okay! If you would like to test our training philosophy for yourself, before committing to formal coaching, you can try any of our training plans found on the TrainingPeaks marketplace.

If we don’t have a distance or discipline you’re looking for now, please check back regularly. We are still working to create new plans in TrainingPeaks and PDF versions in our store.

If you would like to discuss our personalized coaching in greater detail, you can schedule a free 15-minute consultation here.

  • If, after our initial consultation, you feel Juan de Fuca Fitness is a good fit for your fitness goals, we will send you a link where you can sign up for our services.

Physical Therapy

  • Currently, this option is only available to those who live in the state of Washington. We are currently looking into expanding service to additional states, but this will take time.

  • Since Juan de Fuca Fitness is out of network with all insurers, we currently do not take any insurance.

While this does increase the up-front cost, this has the benefit of removing third-party payers from the personalized care you need.

If you prefer to take advantage of any out-of-network benefits you may have, we can provide documentation for you to submit to your health insurer, upon request.

Finally, since we are also out of network with Medicare, we are legally prevented from providing treatment to any Medicare beneficiaries.

  • You can use the link below to schedule your first appointment.

We then use video conferencing software to conduct a virtual assessment. Typically this will be an hour long and involve a subjective interview, as well as movements to assess strength and range of motion.

So, be sure to have a good internet connection, solid audio/visual equipment and plenty of space.

  • Whether it’s an evaluation or a follow-up visit; each block of time has the same cost. So, for additional visits, you just follow the same steps as the evaluation, except you purchase a “Follow-up” appointment, instead of an “Evaluation” appointment.

You can purchase and schedule as many, or as few, as you need.

  • Refunds are not granted for late cancellations (less than 24 hours) or no-shows (greater than 14 minutes late).

We may consider refunds in light of extenuating circumstances, but these will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
